005 is a testament piece to the cyclical process of destruction and creation. The large slab is burnt and deformed whereas the inside is delicately carved to reveal a smooth surface showing the intricate pattern lying just below the dark exterior. This inner surface guides the light emanating from the base of the trunk up to the top where it is caught and reflected back. When lit, the dark charred outline envelops the lighted complex pattern of the tree. This interplay of the duality of a force, heat & charring in contrast to light and its life giving properties is the basis of this piece.
